LAUNCHHOUSE TO HOST TECH UNCONFERENCE
LaunchHouse has selected more than 20 teams to pitch and demo their ideas at the Tech UnConference on July 18, from 10am to 3pm. Following the UnConference, LaunchHouse will select 10 teams to participate in the LaunchHouse Accelerator. The inaugural class will begin September 4, 2012.
The LaunchHouse Accelerator is modeled after the nation’s best incubators, like Y Combinator and Tech Stars. Each team will receive a $25,000 investment, as well as resources to assist them with developing their business in order to raise significant follow on capital.
In February 2012, the OhioDepartment of Development, Third Frontier Program awarded LaunchHouse a $200,000 grant to launch the LaunchHouse Accelerator. LaunchHouse is the first and only incubator in Northeast Ohiochosen to receive the Ohio Third Frontier ONEFund grant.
LaunchHouse also received a $50,000 matching grant from Cleveland based, Clarion Direct Investment.
Teams will have experience-based lab sessions, in an innovative work environment, with one on one mentorship, and dinners/networking with successful entrepreneurs. The program curriculum focuses on customer-centric methods and business development, meaning that from the very beginning companies are engaging their market.
During the Tech UnConference companies will present three minute pitches to a panel of Cleveland-area experts. Following the pitch session, companies will then have the opportunity to demo their internet, technology or mobile app startup company.
Companies pitching at the Techie UnConference include:
- Face The Crowd
- Project & Protégé
- Sliced Apples
“We are very excited to establish LaunchHouse among the leading accelerators in the country,” said Todd Goldstein, LaunchHouse CEO and partner. “We are welcoming a broad spectrum of entrepreneurs, from across the globe relocating toClevelandto grow, and hopefully, launch their business.”
The LaunchHouse managing partners along with an elite group of mentors will participate in the selection process. The top 10 companies selected to participate in the LaunchHouse Accelerator will be announced August 8.
To conclude the 12 week program, each team will present to local and national venture capitalists, investors, angel investors and fellow entrepreneurs on “Showcase Day”, November 28, with the goal of securing follow on funding.
About the LaunchHouse Accelerator
The Ohio Third Frontier ONEFund Accelerator Program designated LaunchHouse to become one of four premier accelerators in the state. This designation carries a $200,000 ONEFund grant which will go directly to ten teams of entrepreneurs. The immersive development experience and methodology stresses a customer-centric focus, meaning that from the very beginning our entrepreneurs are striving to understand the needs of their customers. The Accelerator has taken a grass-roots approach to developing the methodology, as it has been co-designed with entrepreneurs and academics in order to create sessions that fulfill real and evolving needs of stakeholders. Entrepreneurs build skills sets in three primary areas: conceptual, technical and interpersonal.
